Vietnam Visa & Entry Guide
The official 2026 interactive checklist for US Citizens.
Navigating international travel requirements can be stressful. We’ve synthesized the latest May 2026 entry regulations into an interactive dashboard. Use this tool to determine your visa requirements, calculate costs, and prepare for the new digital arrival procedures.
Step 1: Do You Need a Visa?
Determine your visa exemption status by answering a quick question about your itinerary.
Are you traveling strictly and only to Phu Quoc Island?
Mandatory Digital Arrival Card
Effective April 15, 2026, a new pre-arrival declaration is mandatory for all travelers entering via Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat Airport – SGN). This is separate from your visa.
- ➤ Timing: Must be filed within 72 hours of arrival.
- ➤ Cost: Free of charge.
- ➤ Output: Generates a QR Code to present to immigration.
- ➤ Risk: Airlines may deny boarding if this is not completed in advance.
Step 2: E-Visa Preparation
The E-Visa is the standard and recommended method for US citizens. It allows stays up to 90 days and is accepted at 42 international border gates. Use this interactive checklist to ensure you have all required documents before applying.
Application Checklist

Top Application Rejection Reasons
US names often confuse the system. Rely strictly on the MRZ strings at the bottom of your passport data page to determine correct entry.
You must enter via the exact checkpoint selected during application. This cannot be changed post-approval.
While some officers accept phones, regulations mandate printed PDFs. Border agents strongly prefer paper.
Emergency Support (24/7)
If you arrive without a visa, “Visa on Arrival” is only possible via a pre-arranged agency letter.
Step 3: Processing & Fees
Review the cost and time trade-offs. Standard processing via the government portal is the most economical, while agency services provide expedited options.
*Standard fees are official government rates. Urgent/Emergency fees represent average market rates via licensed agencies.
