Vietnam has definitely peeked when it comes to tourism. A few years ago, most people only traveled to Thailand and returned home. These days, backpacking has become more normal and most people tend to travel for a longer period of time when they venture out in the world. Now Vietnam is one of the most popular destinations in the whole Asia and receives many tourists every year from every corner of the world. Including people from Singapore.
If you are a citizen from Singapore, you can go to Vietnam visa free for 30 days. If you plan to visit Vietnam for more than 30 days, you will need a visa. But don’t worry – there are two options for you and they are both easy.
I heard about Vietnam e-visa. Can I apply for Vietnam e-visa if I am citizens of Singapore? (No, Singaporean citizens are not eligible for Vietnam e-visa)
From 01 Feb 2019, under Decision 17/2019/NĐ-CP of the Government of Vietnam, there are 80 countries which citizens of it are eligible to apply online for an e-visa of Vietnam online (e-visa is a single entry valid for staying 30 days). We check but not found Singapore national in this list, therefore, Singaporean citizens should choose two options below to get a visa for Vietnam
Visa On Arrival – Apply online for pre-approval then pick up your visa on arrival at the airport of Vietnam.
One way to obtain a visa is to get a so-called Visa on Arrival. This is an alternative way to obtain a visa to visit Vietnam and you apply for it online. You complete an online application form, pay the processing fee (either with your credit card or through PayPal) and you will then receive your “visa approval letter” via e-mail. This should not take more than one hour to two business days, depending on the visa you have selected. You then wait for the visa approval and once you get it, download it so you can present it at the airport and pick up your visa. When the immigration office sees the approval letter and check it on the system, you need to pay the stamp fee, and voilá! You are ready to enter Vietnam and explore.
The “Visa-On-Arrival” option will help you get a multi-entry visa, so you can visit other countries and still be able to come back to Vietnam without having to apply for a visa again. With the Visa on Arrival you can apply to stay for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and even up to 12 months! It is really easy, smooth and affordable. Just make sure that you apply for a visa in time before you are leaving to Vietnam, so you have all the papers ready.
Another option for you, if you are a citizen from Singapore, is to go through the Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore. You can choose to apply for the Visa to Vietnam in person at the Vietnam Embassy in Singapore.
Important things to note before you apply for a visa:
Make sure that your passport is valid for a minimum of 6 months before you apply for a visa and that you still have blank pages left for the stamp. You can only enter Vietnam by air if you have chosen to apply for a Visa on Arrival. This means you can’t enter the country by train, bus or boat.
Other than that, you are good to go. Never before has it been easier to apply for visas. We wish you a pleasant trip to Vietnam and hope this article has been helpful for you. If you have any further questions, please contact us and we will get right back to you.
