45-Day Visa Exemption for Japanese Families
Japanese families can enter Vietnam visa-free for stays up to 45 days. This rule applies equally to both adults and children. However, if a child holds their own passport, they are treated as an independent traveler. If an e-Visa application is necessary, a separate application must be submitted for each individual child.
Crucial Rule: Children Cannot Be Added to a Parent’s Application
You cannot add a child to a parent’s e-Visa application form. Even for infants, as long as they hold an individual passport, an independent e-Visa application is required. Attempting to include a child on a parent’s application may lead to the rejection of the parent’s application as well. There are no age-based exemptions; infants, toddlers, and teenagers all require individual visas.
Cases Where Families Require an e-Visa
- Stays exceeding 45 days
- Multiple entries/exits required (e.g., Vietnam → Cambodia → Vietnam)
- If parents require an e-Visa, all accompanying children must also obtain e-Visas
Document Requirements for Children’s e-Visa Applications

Fees: Fees for a child’s e-Visa are identical to adult rates. There are no age discounts.
Traveling with One Parent——Consent Letter Recommended
When traveling with a child under single-parent supervision, border officials at Vietnam immigration may request a consent letter from the other parent. While not required for the e-Visa application itself, carrying a notarized parental consent letter helps prevent border clearance delays.
Different Surnames: If a child carries a different surname from the accompanying parent, e-Visa processing proceeds normally based on the child’s passport details. However, carrying an official birth certificate or document proving parent-child relationship is strongly advised.
Batch Processing for Family Applications
While each application is technically separate, using an agency service allows batch processing for the entire family. Matching entry dates and ports of entry across all family members minimizes the risk of travel delays caused by single individual discrepancies.

Digital Arrival Card——Mandatory for Every Family Member
Starting April 15, 2026, all entering passengers—regardless of visa status—must register for the Digital Arrival Card. Every family member, including children, must register individually. Complete registration on the official website (prearrival.immigration.gov.vn) within 72 hours prior to arrival to obtain individual QR codes.
