According to the current 2026 entry regulations of Vietnam, Indian passport holders traveling to Vietnam for tourism, business, or visiting relatives must obtain a valid visa in advance. As of now, Vietnam has not implemented a unilateral visa waiver for India; therefore, every Indian traveler must have a visa ready before departure.
⚠️ The Only Visa-Free Exception: Phu Quoc Island Phu Quoc Island remains the only region in Vietnam open to Indian passport holders for visa-free entry for a stay of up to 30 days, provided the following conditions are met:
- Passport validity of at least 6 months.
- Possession of a return ticket or a ticket to a third country.
- Direct flight to Phu Quoc (or transit via a foreign country to Phu Quoc without leaving the transit area).
- The itinerary is restricted to Phu Quoc Island; a visa is mandatory if traveling to the Vietnamese mainland (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, etc.).
APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) Holders Business travelers holding a valid APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) can enter Vietnam visa-free when accompanied by a valid passport. ABTC holders enjoy multiple-entry privileges to APEC member economies for up to five years, with stays usually lasting two to three months per entry.

Common Mistakes & Important Notes
Vietnam’s audit process is extremely strict. A tiny error can invalidate your visa.
❌ Common Reasons for Failure
- Name Order: Indian travelers often swap Surname and Given Name. Information must match the MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) at the bottom of the passport exactly.
- Photo Issues: Blurred photos, wearing glasses, non-white backgrounds, or re-photographing old physical photos.
- Passport Number Errors: One wrong character makes the visa invalid.
- Incomplete Scans: Fingers covering data or corners being cut off in the scan.
✅ Best Practices
- Apply 2–3 weeks in advance.
- Double-check name format against the MRZ.
- Use an agency if you are unsure about the requirements.
- Print two copies of your visa just in case.
Special Cases: Emergency Vietnam Visas
Sometimes plans change—a last-minute business trip, an error found on a visa, or being stopped at the check-in counter. In these cases, you need an Emergency Visa.
Emergency Processing Times (2026):
- Standard Emergency (1–2 days): For travel in 2–3 days.
- Super Emergency (4–8 hours): For same-day or next-day travel.
- Last Minute/Airport Rescue (30–60 mins): 24/7 service for travelers stuck at the airport.
Note: The official government site does not offer 1-hour services; these must be handled via authorized agencies.
Visa on Arrival (VOA) & Embassy Options
Visa on Arrival is a backup for emergencies or system outages. You must obtain an Approval Letter online first. Upon arrival at a Vietnam international airport, submit the letter, passport, and photos at the VOA counter and pay the stamping fee ($25 Single / $50 Multiple) in cash.
Embassy Application (New Delhi) is required for:
- Stays longer than 90 days.
- Work Visas (LD), Relative Visits (TT), or Transit (D).
- Requires original passport, photos, NA1 form, and supporting documents (invitation letters, etc.).
Latest Entry Regulations (2026)
- Digital Arrival Card: Starting April 15, 2026, all non-Vietnamese citizens entering via Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat Airport) must complete an online declaration within 72 hours before arrival. This does not replace the visa.
- No Paper Arrival Cards: Most travelers no longer need to fill out physical entry cards upon landing.
- July 2026 New Law: On July 1, 2026, a revised law on entry/exit will further simplify E-Visa procedures and expand its usage.
