On May 4, 1993, the Governments of Vietnam and Hungary signed an agreement to exempt citizens holding diplomatic and official passports from visa requirements. The agreement became effective on August 1, 1993:
- Visa exemption is granted to holders of diplomatic and official passports with a temporary residence of up to 90 days. Extensions are available upon request by diplomatic missions and consulates.
- Members of diplomatic missions, consulates, trade agencies, international organizations, and their spouses and minor children living with them, holding diplomatic or official passports, are exempted from visa requirements for the duration of their assignments.
