If you want to avoid it, don’t go to the big cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, where traffic is non stop. Instead, go to the smaller, coastal towns, where there’s less people and less motorbikes.

Visa on Arrival or E-Visa, two online visas that you can apply for safely from your home. The E-Visa is only eligible for 80 countries in the world though, so double check first if you belong to that list. If not, the Visa on Arrival is an excellent choice. The third choice is to go to the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate and apply with them. This is a good option if you intend to cross to Vietnam by land. You must book an appointment with them first and then from there proceed with the visa application. This may take a bit longer than the online visa, therefore, the online visa is highly recommended.
