Vietnam E-Visa Photo Requirements

Before traveling to any country, an international tourist needs to consider several things, especially attaining the right kind of visa. Otherwise, their travel would not be as smooth and hassle-free as they would like.

If you are traveling to Vietnam and wish for a pleasant experience, ensure that you fulfill all the Vietnam e-visa photo requirements. Vietnam has given the right to the residents of 80 countries to apply for their visa online. This not only saves time, as the tourists do not have to follow the traditional procedure but also is fairly easy.

The online process of visa application only takes a few minutes, after which, the only thing the visitor has to do is to wait for their approved visa through email. In order to obtain the e-visa, you will need to comply with a few Vietnam e-visa photo guidelines, such as –

  • The weight and format of the photo
  • Quality and clarity of the photo
  • The facial expression of the applicant
  • Use of scarves, glasses, and other accessories

In the case of minors who wish to attain Vietnam visa should also follow the guidelines.

Specific Requirements for Vietnam E-Visa Photo

Different citizens of distinct cities understand passport-size photographs in a varying manner. In order to steer clear of confusion and make sure that your Vietnam e-visa does not get denied due to improper pictures, follow these requirements.

  • Size: 2×2 inches/4×6 cm.
  • Format: GIF, JPG.
  • Weight: Maximum 2 MB.
  • Background: Choose a bright and plain background.
  • Color: Black and white picture is accepted, however, don’t use a filter.
  • Lighting: Lighting needs to be kept even to prevent shadows. Moreover, the picture should not possess any form of glare.
  • Position: You must be facing the camera with relaxed shoulders.
  • Facial Expression: Do not smile and maintain a neutral expression with your mouth closed.
  • Glasses and eyes: Your eyes need to kept and clearly visible, looking at the camera directly. Tinted lenses are prohibited. You can wear glasses only if eyes are visible even after wearing them.
  • Attire: You should avoid wearing any color that can blend with the background.
  • Head accessories and scarves: You can wear this only for medical or religious purposes.
  • Beard: People who wear a beard normally should keep if for Vietnam e-visa photo as well.
  • Hair: The hair should not be covering the face. They should be kept down if they are long in length.
  • Recency: The picture should be recently taken (maximum 6 months old) before applying for the Vietnam e-visa

Every applicant needs to submit two such pictures. Hence, you can either give these instructions to your professional photographer or reduce the weight and size of your picture on your own by using a picture editing software.

Requirements in Case of Children

Your child will be needing a separate visa if you are traveling to Vietnam if they have their own passport. You can attach the details of your minor child to your application if they fall under your guardianship. And children above 14 years of age  would need to apply for the e-visa separately.

As a part of the children’s application, they must have their own visa pictures submitted, which comply with the following guidelines.

  • The child should be present in the picture alone. Siblings and parents should not make an appearance in the picture used for applying for Vietnam e-visa for minors.
  • The photograph should not have pacifiers, bottles, toys, or any other object.
  • The minor should sit or stand op with open eyes, if possible. In the case of toddlers or newborn babies, parents can lay them on a white sheet to make a solid background.
  • Rules on photo size, attire, lighting, etc that apply to the adults should also be applied to the children.

Photo Requirements for Vietnam Visa on Arrival

Although the process can be unpredictable and longer, a lot of visitors choose to apply for the Vietnam visa on arrival after reaching the Vietnamese point of entry.

If you decide for the Vietnam visa on arrival, you must remember to carry two photographs with you along with your travel documents, passport, and sufficient cash to pay for the application fees for the relevant Vietnam visa.

You should hand over the visa photographs to the control officers at Vietnamese border and stick them to your exit and entry form. Regarding the photo requirements for visa on arrival, it needs to be the same as Vietnam e-visa. These include lighting, size, head and face position, head accessories, attire, etc.
The only difference is that as you need to provide physical copies of the photographs at the Vietnamese border, you need a print out on glossy photo paper.
