Hello everyone. My name is Thomas, and I recently had a mind-blowing experience in Vietnam. The rocky islands of Ha Long Bay and coastal resorts in Phu Quoc are simply unforgettable. However, that is another day’s topic. There is one thing that made my trip quite convenient. Apparently, you can apply for a visa on arrival (or VOA) and get legal permissible travel documents. The process is entirely online, and there are no personal stops at an agency or embassy. It is also very fast as you can receive valid documents within a matter of hours so if you are making a last-minute adjustment to your schedule, VOAs offer one of the best alternatives.
Finding about visa on arrival
It was my first time in Vietnam. I’m still new to traveling abroad, so I usually lick my visa from an embassy. While browsing randomly one day, I saw a forum about the best destinations in Vietnam, and one of the feeds suggested traveling with Vietnam visa on arrival. I immediately thought it was new, but my Google search was disappointing. VOAs are available for Vietnam and several other countries including Bolivia, Cambodia and Cape Verde, to mention a few. My next step was naturally to research more about the topic which ended in me applying for a VOA and using it to travel to Vietnam. It is important to note that I travel by air so the case is different if you are entering Vietnam via a cruise ship or land.
How it works
Visa on arrival is exactly what the name reads. You will get your official visa as soon as you arrive in Vietnam. However, you must enter via an international airport. Currently, you can only use visa on arrival when entering Vietnam through international airports in the following locations:
- Da Nang International Airport in Da Nang city
- Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City
- Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi city
- Cat Bi International Airport in Hai Phong city
- Cam Ranh International Airport in Nha Trang city
- Lien Khuong International Airport in Da Lat city
- Phu Quoc International Airport in Phu Quoc island
The application process is online, and you will receive a pre-qualification letter that you must print and present on departure. If there is anything ambiguous, you can still call the agency for clarification.
Should I use VOA?
I cannot see a reason why you shouldn’t try the Vietnam visa on arrival unless you are traveling by sea or land. Eligibility requirements are at minimal so anyone that qualifies for a regular visa can apply for a VOA. The application process is simple and involves filling an online form and waiting for feedback. You can get pre-qualification letter sent to your mail within 4 to 8 hours if you have pressing needs. If not, standard applications take anywhere from 2 – 3 days, but you can always push the agency for quick pre-approval.
If you are worried about VOAs not being a legitimate offer, you should drop them already. The service is under the governance of the Immigration Department, although you will get VOAs from private travel agencies in the respective countries, Vietnam in this case. Anyone can apply for a visa on arrival as long as you meet the criteria. Your passport should have a minimum of six months at the time of entry.
Besides, on arrival at the airport of Vietnam, you should provide identification information, including two clear passport-size photos of yourself, a $25 application fee per VOA for single entry visa (or $50 for multiple entries visa). Please note that you have to pay additional fee on arrival at the airport when picking up your visa there, this fee is for a single entry, multiple entry fee is $50.
How to apply
To apply for the Vietnam visa on arrival, all you need is a reliable travel agency. You can look up customer reviews and compare different offers before making a decision – please take a look at Vietnam Visa Cheap. Once you have that, proceed to fill the online application form and wait for your pre-qualification email. This shouldn’t take more than five days. You will need to print the pre-approval letter to present at the airport during departure. Do not forget the passport minimum dates and clear photos. Upon arrival in Vietnam, you will receive a visa with the official stamp.
It is incredible how much effort and time you end up saving if you choose the visa on arrival offer. The great thing is you can complete applications from anywhere in the world. VOAs are also more affordable if you compare it to the conventional travel visa application process. It is legit, easy to accomplish, and has the same benefits as a regular visa. The only difference is you have to access Vietnam via air; VOAs only work in specific airports. When looking for VOAs, ensure you choose credible travel agencies that can inform and facilitate you to quickly get a VOA pre-approval letter.
