What is the Process to Extend the Visa When I am in Vietnam

Vietnam Visa Extension

Vietnam is one of those travel destinations that has more to offer. The beautiful landscapes, foods, culture, people, and more would entice any traveller. But what if you are not done exploring the country and your cheap Vietnam visa validity is nearing its end? Leaving Vietnam and reapplying for a fresh visa is not just inconvenient, but expensive as well. This is when visa extension facility comes in handy.

Vietnam Visa Extension – What You Need to Know

Here are a few criteria you should know about visa extension while in Vietnam:

  • Be informed that the visas applied online through the ‘Visa on Arrival’ program are only eligible for the visa extension facility. If you have applied for an e-Visa, it cannot be extended.
  • The Vietnam visa cost associated with visa extension are not fixed. Visa extension cost will depend on your nationality, port of entry, type of visa, and the number of days of extension.
  • Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the time of extension, and should have a minimum of 2 blank pages.
  • Your visa could be extended for a maximum of 2 times.

When you apply for a 1 month extension for your 1 month single entry visa, the valid date of the new visa starts from the date of extension. For instance, if your visa is valid from 12 Oct to 12 Nov, and you applied for its extension on 23 Oct, the validity of your new visa will be from 23 Oct to 23 Nov. The same does apply when you are extending your 3 months single entry and 3 months multiple entries visa. So, make sure you are applying for extension close to the expiry date of your current visa.

How to Extend Your Vietnam Visa:

You could extend your visa by either approaching the Immigration department or with the assistance of a reliable travel agency such as VietnamImmigration.com. Extending your visa through a visa agent is recommended as the process is easier, faster, and hassle-free.

The only document you should provide to the agency is your original passport with minimum 2 blank pages. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Scan your passport as well as the page that includes your current valid Vietnam visa and mail these to info@vietnamimmigration.com. The professionals will then forward it to the Vietnam Immigration Department who will check your information and process your visa extension request.
  2. The agency will keep you informed about the applicable Vietnam visa fee for visa extension and your eligibility for the extension facility. Note that visa extensions usually vary from case to case.

Note: The processing time for visa extension usually varies from 5 to 10 days (excludes Saturday, Sunday, and national holidays), which is why it is strongly suggested to extend your visa at least a week before the expiry of your current visa. You could alternatively opt for the agency’s express service to process your application faster for an extra fee.
