A Vietnam Visa on Arrival involves acquiring a pre-approved visa letter using a Vietnam agency. You use this document or visa approval letter to check in at the airport. The authorities will hand you your actual visa stamp upon arrival at the international Vietnam airport.

Who is eligible

Visitors to Vietnam are required to have a valid visa. They are also eligible to apply for one on arrival if they use air travel to get to Vietnam. However, those traveling by land or cruise ship are required to have a full visa before arrival.

How to apply

If you are planning your visit to Vietnam soon, find a reputable website and fill out the visa application form. Do some research online on forums and reviews to find a company that is reputable and where people have had the best experiences.

On completion, you will receive an email with a link directing you on how to pay for the application. Once processed, the company will confirm receipt and provide a date for you to expect the visa approval letter. The approval letter will take around 3 to 5 days unless you have requested for fast-tracking which takes about 8 working hours.

Prepare your paperwork

Once you receive your approval via email:

  • Print a hard copy and an extra as backup.
  • Get two passport size photos
  • Have a passport with at least 6 months validity during entry time.
  • Get $25 in cash as stamping fee

Once you get to the airport, find the Visa on Arrival counter and present the documents. Hand over your papers, passports, and photos. You will then be requested to fill out a form before paying the stamping fee. Pay the stamping fee and get the visa stamped. This can be done either in Hanoi, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh city, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Can Tho and Da Lat. After this, move to the regular immigration counters and get processed into Vietnam. The Visa on arrival is convenient since you don’t have to queue at the embassy, it’s not expensive, and it’s fast.
