Where to get inked in Ho Chi Minh City

The Vietnamese culture hasn’t always tolerated tattoos and back in the days, it was seen as something only people with a criminal record had. But nowadays, the younger crowds have embraced the tattoo culture with open arms and more and more tattoo parlours are opening up in the country. It was back in the mid-90s that commercial tattoo parlours began to open and today there’s hundreds of stores where you can get inked. 1. Saigon Ink

2. Recycle Bin Tattoo

Address: 176 Huynh Van Banh, Ward 12, Phu Nhuan District, HCMC

The owner Hieu Chi opened up what would be one of the most popular tattoo parlours in Ho Chi Minh City in 2009, when he had gathered some of the best local artists. He named it “recycle bin” because he wanted to “recycle” himself and wants people to have another view towards tattoos. Instead of thinking of it as something sad, like it used to be seen as, it’s not a symbol of happiness that will last forever on your body. Although the studio is a bit further away from the city center, it’s worth the ride there. Walking in to his studio, you’ll notice the studio is industrial-chic with old, nostalgic items spread out. The people working are passionate and extremely talented at what they do, so you’ll be in very good hands if you head over to Recycle Bin.

3. Tam Quoc Tattoo

Address: 45 Luong Huu Khanh, Pham Ngu Lao Ward, D.1, HCMC

Want to get a full body tattoo? This studio is actually specialized in it and has created art on people’s body since 2013. It’s owned by four brothers who uses traditional patterns and symbols as their inspiration to create unique artworks. They have incredible and unique skills, which is why their parlour is almost always fully booked. Their clients come from all corners of the world and they’ve also attracted several Vietnamese celebrities. Safe to say, it’s one of the best places to get a tattoo in Vietnam. Make sure you call and reserve a spot beforehand though.

 4. Vien Tattoo Studio

Address: 46 Vũ Huy Tấn, Phường 3, Quận Bình Thạnh, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

If you’re not looking for a full body tattoo, why not get something a bit smaller and cute? In Vien Tatto Studio, they keep it simple and pretty with their black tattoos. The prices are reasonable here and is the perfect place to go to if you want to create something fun. The artist Duyet Phan specialises in cartoon-style body art so if that’s what you’re looking for, why not make a reservation with Vien Tattoo Studio. They’re professional and will ensure that whatever you want to get inked on your body will be something that you’ll love forever.

Some things to think about before getting a tattoo in Vietnam:

  • Bring cash! In some places they only accept cash and not card so better to be on the safe side.
  • Remember to do your research before you choose a studio. Read reviews online, look at their previous artwork and see if it’s been successful.
  • Be 100% sure of what you want to get inked and where you want it placed. The tattoo artist can assist you with the design but the more the artist knows, the better he will design it.
  • Make sure that the artist uses good and clean equipments.
