You could also either rent a car from Hanoi, go with a shuttle bus or taxi, take a bus, train or why not rent a motorbike and bike to Halong Bay yourself. Once you’re in Halong Bay, you can combine your honeymoon with an overnight boat trip in the bay where you get to sleep under the stars, cruise along the thousands of limestone islands and islets, explore underground caves, eat good food and swim in the emerald green waters. When you’ve seen the bay, you can take the ferry over to Cat Ba, which belongs to Halong Bay. As with the other islands, you’ll be met with white sand beaches, lush green landscapes and grand mountains. There’s no denying that Cat Ba island is one of the most romantic places in Vietnam and it makes for the perfect place to spend your honeymoon.
It’s very important that you apply for a Vietnam visa before you intend on arriving to the country. If you’re not on the Vietnam visa exempt list, or would like to stay for longer than 15 days, it’s required of you to apply for a visa. You can either go to your nearest Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate and apply with them, or you could make it easy for you and do it online. There are two options: Visa on Arrival and E-Visa. The latter is only available for certain countries though. Applying online is by far the easiest, fastest and affordable way to acquire a visa.
